Richard Beasley: The Character Of The Man And His Times /Author: David

Beasley/ Simcoe, Ont: Davus Publishing, 2003. Booklet. 24 pages

This modest publication is based on a talk given to the friends of the MacNab Circle at Dundurn Castle, Feb 19, 2002, which is fitting enough, because Richard Beasley's Georgian house stood where Dundurn Castle now stands. Richard ended up in the Niagara area prior to the end of the Revolutionary War, and throughout his life he was a businessman, well acquainted with other notables such as Richard Cartwright, and later Bishop Strachan, with whom he was on the 'outs'. Richard's life was typically a series of successes and setbacks but he lived to a respectable age, having been born in 1761 and passing away in 1842. He was a major figure in the early days of Hamilton. Author David brings out Richard's character, and that of several of his contemporaries in a brief twenty-four pages including several pictures.

It's good value for $3.95 CDN/US. The book can be found in museum bookstores, (especially at Dundurn Castle), or through the web page: www.kwic.com/ ~davus. You can also try the email: davus@kwic.com or call 519-427-2077.
